Hybrid Feeder Tips: Speedy’s Secret Sauce Pots!

Speedy reveals his secret yet simple tip that will help you pack more attraction into your Hybrid feeder on every cast…

Over the years, Nick Speed has developed a collection of secret tweaks and tips which, on more than one occasion, have been the difference between winning the match and placing nowhere.

Now, he’s ready to share one of these tips to help you put more fish in your net whilst feeder fishing.

Take a look at the above picture. To most, it’s just a standard hybrid feeder loaded with mirco pellets that’s ready to be cast out to fool a hungry carp.

Whilst this is mostly true, there’s a lot more to this feeder that meets the eye…

You see, the pellets around this feeder are actually disguising a small reservoir loaded with a liquid flavouring that bursts out of the feeder on the lake bed. This helps create a visual attraction in addition to adding extra scent to your feeders!

Of course, a hybrid feeder loaded with pellets will always catch you fish, but it’s in those matches when everyone else is using the same approach that this adaptation will make the biggest difference.

Aptly named, Speedy’s Secret Sauce Pots, we’re going to show you how you can make them easily on the bank but first, you’re going to need a few ingredients…

INGREDIENTS

Speedy’s pellet choice for the majority of his hybrid fishing is dampened 3mm Swim Stim Betaine Green Pellets mixed 50/50 with 2mm XL Carp Pellets flavoured with CompleX-T Liquid. Both pellets have been pre-soaked – with the Betaine Green Pellet Soak being used for the matching 3mm pellets, and plain water for the 2mm XL Carp Pellets before a few capfuls of the CompleX-T liquid are added for extra flavour.

Your hookbait options are what you have most confidence in using and for Speedy, these are 7mm Washters or dead maggots.

You can add any liquid to your feeders although the runnier it is, the better the cloud will be. For this reason, Speedy favours the new Shot liquids from Dynamite.

All you need now is a Hybrid feeder and a bread punch or cap to use to punch out the hole in your pellets!

STEP 1

Tie the hybrid feeder onto your line with your hookbait attached.

STEP 2

Take a handful of pellets and place it into your feeder, before using your thumb to squash them down to create a flat table.

STEP 3

Take your punch and press this into the centre of the pellets and twist to remove a small punch of pellets.

STEP 4

Now take your liquid and add it to the reservoir you’ve just made in the pellets. Do not overfill the reservoir.

STEP 5

Now place your hookbait in the liquid.

STEP 6

Take a handful of pellets and squeeze on top of the feeder to cover the reservoir. Do this a couple of times to create a thick layer of pellets. The feeder is now ready to be cast out!

THE RESULTS

We recently joined speedy on the banks of Worsbrough Reservoir to put his Secret Sauce Pots to the test and even whilst casting at distances of 80m or more, his feeders held firm and caught numerous skimmers and carp.

Give this tweak on a classic method a go the next time you visit the bank and see the results for yourself!
